Suaram secretariat member Cynthia Gabriel will be served a summons by the police on Monday related to a dinner organised to raise funds for its 'Scorpene' court case in France.

NONE Gabriel ( right ) said she received a call from the Petaling Jaya police headquarters at about 3.30pm yesterday informing her about the matter.

"The police said I will be served a summons under Section 112 (of the Criminal Procedure Code) for the Scorpene dinner," she told Malaysiakini, when contacted.

Section 112 of the CPC is related to "examination of witnesses by police".

"When I asked what about the dinner, the police officer told me that it is related to a police report lodged against us," she added.

"Round two of Suaram harassment has begun in the midst of increasing shooting and escalating crime rate. Shouldn't the force be more focussed on solving crime?" said Gabriel.

Gabriel was referring to the round of probes against them last September using the Registrar of Societies' (ROS), after the federal government alleged the NGO was involved in financial irregularities and receipt of foreign funds.

Plot thickens on Scorpene case

The Suaram dinner, a second round of fundraising efforts by Suaram, held on Jul 19 at the MPBJ Dewan Sivik, featured a " surprise witness " who shared details of the alleged scandal involving the Malaysian government’s purchase of two Scorpene class submarines in 2002.

Americk singh PI Bala's lawyer The witness at the dinner turned out to be Americk Singh Sidhu ( right ), the lawyer for the late private investigator, P Balasubramaniam hired by political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda to deal with Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu when she was in Malaysia to seek the latter.

Americk spoke about Altantuya's murder in 2006 by two former bodyguards of Prime Minister Najib Razak, who was then defence minister, saying the duo were "scapegoats".

Abdul Razak, a close friend of Najib’s, was also charged with Altantuya's murder but was acquitted in 2008 without his defence being called.

French court dossiers have revealed that Altantuya was Abdul Razak's translator and had travelled with him to China in 2005.

NONE In 2009, Suaram filed a corruption suit against French-based naval defence firm DCNS, for allegedly paying 114.9 million euro (RM452 million) in illegal commissions to Perimekar Sdn Bhd - a company partly owned by Abdul Razak.

Last week, the architect of the Scorpene deal Jasbir Singh Chahl claimed in The New Straits Times that Altantuya had never been part of the Scorpene deal and whatever affair she had with Abdul Razak was "personal".

This led to BN leaders accusing Suaram of spreading lies, while Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed the NGO is liable for sedition .

However, Suaram responded that Jasbir had been allegedly ousted out of the RM7.3 billion deal in 2002, and his role was replaced by Abdul Razak.
