The Election Commission (EC) must immediately clean up the electoral roll of those given suspicious citizenship in Sabah, said MCA publicity bureau chairperson Heng Seai Kie.

NONE Heng said the names of those who have obtained citizenship and Malaysian identity cards through illegal or suspicious means must be “struck off at once” from the list, and their citizenship and ICs revoked.

“Although we cannot undo the past, we must make sure there will not be the same mistake again,” Heng ( right ) said in a statement today.

“The citizenship status and blue identity cards issued to the illegals in Sabah under very suspicious circumstances must be withdrawn and declared null and void.

“The same goes for their names registered in the Election Commission’s electoral roll. They must be struck off at once.

Only then, she said, will the EC be cleared of suspicion of registering phantom voters.

Heng’s comments were in response to yesterday’s testimony by former Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd employee Mat Swadi Awi at the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on immigrants in Sabah.

Swadi testified that until 1990, he had designated the constituencies some 20,000 holders of blue IC’s would be registered in with the EC to best strengthen Usno.

Heng also said that whoever was found responsible for ‘Project IC’ should be charged in court and convicted, irrespective of their position and background.

“Even if it ranks among a former prime minister, cabinet ministers or Sabah chief ministers and other high ranking civil servants,” he said.

Swadi also yesterday testified that he was acting under the direction of the late Sabah chief minister Mustapha Harun, who told Swadi the plan had been approved by then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
