The Perak state assembly sitting yesterday joined Selangor and Penang in approving a pay hike for its members.

According to Sinar Harian , the new pay from RM4,112.79 to RM6,000 a month was approved as part of the state's budget for 2014.

A separate motion granting every state assemblyperson an additional RM3,000 a month to operate their service centres also received the nod.

The special allocation was extended to all 59 state assemblyperson, including the opposition.

The hike mirrors Penang which also announced a salary increment from RM4,112.79 to RM6,000 but will only table a motion for the move in the state assembly next week.

Penang state representatives will also see an additional RM3,500 rise in allowance from RM2,000.

Selangor, too, had announced a pay hike for its assemblypersons but has been embroiled in controversy over what is seen as a steep jump.

The state is planning to increase its state assemblypersons' pay by 87 percent, from RM6,000 to RM11,250.
