S'gor MB urged to explain under-utilisation of funds
DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to explain the under-utilisation of federal funds for road maintenance in the state.
DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to explain the under-utilisation of federal funds for road maintenance in the state.
"I call upon the menteri besar (
right
) to explain why the Selangor government didn't make full use of funds channelled by the federal government to the state for maintenance and upkeep of non-federal roads," Gobind said in a statement today.
He was responding to the Auditor-General's Report 2012, which revealed that the state government had only spent 56.3 percent of the RM1.14 billion in federal funding for maintaining the state's roads.
The report said even though the under-spending accumulated RM631.27 million in surplus funds, it reflected the state government's inefficiency in utilising the funds.
The Auditor-General's Office also conducted a survey of residents in Klang, Gombak and Shah Alam and found that 80 percent of the 545 respondents to be dissatisfied with the road conditions there.
"There is no doubt that there is dissatisfaction among many over the conditions of roads, both local and federal, in Selangor.
"This is something that has been communicated to the state often. It appears now that the problem isn't due to a shortage of funds. The funds are there," said Gobind.
He added that Khalid should state the reasons for the under-utilisation of the funds and how the state government plans to overcome it.
