The recent survey by the Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (Umcedel) “backs the warning of BN’s Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamed” that the ruling coalition will lose the next general election if price increases continue across the board.

The survey released at Universiti Malaya today also revealed that a vast majority of Malaysians are concerned about price rises, ranging from oil, sugar to electricity, former deputy higher education minister Saifuddin Abdullah noted.

"The survey seems to prove that Nur Jazlan ( right ) is right," Saifuddin said after attending the presentation on Umcedel's findings.

He also said that if the BN failed to solve this problem of price increases within six months, the repercussions could last much longer.

"These issues are at the top of people's minds. If within six months we do not resolve them, the effect could prolong and this will not augur well for the BN," Saifuddin said.

He said Nur Jazlan, who is also chairperson of the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee, would not have made his statements based on instinct alone.

"He is speaking from experience and I believe he has done his homework. He normally bases his statements on findings he has made on his own," Saifuddin said.

"The survey proves that Nur Jzalan is right. All the more reason for the government to look into this issue," he added.
