Dr M claims Boeing aircraft 'dangerous' to fly
MH370 Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has questioned Boeing’s lack of public explanation over the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 tragedy, claiming that unless the company sheds more light, its aircraft safety is in doubt.
“Boeing has a lot to answer. Until the plane is found and the causes of the failure of communication equipment and the disappearance are fully explained, one must conclude that Boeing aircraft are dangerous to fly in,” he said in a blog posting this morning.
Mahathir said even though the communication system of Boeing’s aircraft is supplied by contractors and vendors, Boeing is ultimately responsible for the installation, testing and certification.
“In the case of MH370 the only thing that we know for certain is that after the co-pilot said ‘All right, good night’ there was no more communication... In other words there was a total communication breakdown.
“How was this possible! The pilot may disable it! Are the communication systems in a Boeing 777 so easily disabled? Is there no backup?” he said.
Mahathir lamented Boeing being “deathly quiet” over the communication failure in the aircraft.
“If this can happen to MH370, a Boeing 777, is it safe to fly in such planes? When will another plane disappear?” he said.
Mahathir had previously defended Putrajaya, insisting that the Malaysian government has done all it could to deal the with missing plane.
Malaysiakini has contacted Boeing for a response and is awaiting a reply.
Beijing-bound Flight MH370 went missing shortly after taking off from KL International Airport in the early hours of March 8.
Authorities have determined the Boeing 777-200ER carrying 12 crew and 227 passengers had made a turn-back after deliberately cutting communications with tower controllers and flew on into the unknown.
Investigators have determined the aircraft’s final position to be in the Indian Ocean, but the aircraft remains lost after more than two months of searching.
