PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim has moved to douse the fire of mounting speculation of Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's ouster.

Anwar, in a two-paragraph statement this evening, however stopped short of issuing a gag order.

"I refer to a few statements recently made about the position of the Selangor menteri besar.

"I stress that all state assemblypersons and party leadership must respect the rules and conduct on this issue," he said.

Anwar added the menteri besar's position is not decided by any individual but is determined collectively.

"The menteri besar's position is not based on anyone's personal agenda or ownership but is a collective decision of PKR and Pakatan Rakyat with the blessing of the sultan," he said.

‘Consensus reached’

Anwar's remarks comes as PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar on Wednesday claimed there was already a consensus within Pakatan Rakyat to remove Abdul Khalid.

Abdul Khalid ( right ) has today said he will not resign as menteri besar even if he losses in the ongoing PKR polls.

He was defeated in the Kuala Selangor PKR division chief race and is trailing rival leader Azmin Ali for the position of PKR deputy president.

There has been growing calls for Abdul Khalid to be replaced as menteri besar due to his rigid management style and his tendency not to consult his party and coalition partners in policy decisions.
