Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said there is no need for him to resign even if he is defeated in the race for the PKR deputy presidency.

This comes after his surprise defeat as Kuala Selangor PKR division chief, a result which he is challenging .

"There was never a clause to say if you fail in your party election, you have to resign as menteri besar," he told a press conference in Pulau Indah, Port Klang this afternoon.

Regardless of the outcome, Khalid pointed out that he remains the state assemblyperson for Port Klang, which is the only prerequisite for his appointment as menteri besar.

"It's like if you lose as MP, then you cannot be a minister. That is okay. But if you are an MP you remain as an MP until the next general election," he said.

Khalid said any consideration about his position as menteri besar will be based on his capacity to manage the state.

Asked if the recent PKR polls results is indicative that his political career was coming to an end, he replied, "Never mind."

"Career or not, I will continue my efforts until my responsibility as a state assemblyperson, menteri besar as well as MP for Bandar Tun Razak ends," he said.

However, he reiterated that he will seek to resolve the alleged "flaws" in the Kuala Selangor party election in which he lost.

Faekah's new role

Earlier, Khalid in his speech lamented that he had to increasingly participate in politics on top of his duties as menteri besar.

 
"As menteri besar, I have many duties and now I even have many political work to do as well," he said.
 
As such, Khalid said he is appointing his former political secretary Faekah Husin ( right ) as the coordinator for the state assembly seat of Port Klang in the bid to assist him.
 
"Like this there can be more time to meet with the people and to solve the land problems here," he said.
 
He added he will still visit his constituency but Faekah's role will be to bolster that.
 
Khalid, who is better known as an administrator, had said he will be more involved in politics amid growing attempts to oust him over his rigid management style.
