Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has jumped on speculation that PKR deputy president Azmin Ali may be made Selangor menteri besar, cheekily congratulating him on his 'appointment'.

"Congratulations Azmin Ali. It's finally over," Khairy said in a Twitter posting referring to the ongoing tussle on replacing current embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Khairy had linked an Astro Awani report today to his Twitter remark which quoted unnamed sources stating that DAP and PAS had yesterday consented to Azmin becoming menteri besar.

The story claimed another possible replacement for Abdul Khalid, PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, was unlikely to be chosen as PAS was opposed to a woman menteri besar.

"The appointment will be made after Hari Raya," Astro Awani quoted the source as saying.

However, when contacted, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil rubbished the speculation.

'PKR denies report'

"It is false reporting," he told Malaysiakini .

Pakatan Rakyat secretariat coordinator Shabrimi Sidek also denied the allegation, saying the matter was not discussed in the July 14 meeting where the appointment was supposedly made.

“The issue regarding the menteri besar of Selangor including the issue of candidates for a successor was not discussed in the meeting, and was left to the Pakatan Rakyat President’s Council (to deliberate),” he said in a statement.

Khairy has had in recent weeks mocked Pakatan Rakyat over the ongoing menteri besar tussle, pointing out that BN's own crisis in Terengganu was resolved within a week but Pakatan's has dragged on for over a year.

Abdul Khalid is facing increasing pressure to step down following growing discontent against his rigid management style.

He had been heavily criticised for various issues, including his handling of the confiscation of the Bible by Islamic religious authorities and the controversial Kinrara-Damansara exressway (Kidex).

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim last Saturday did not deny a move to replace Abdul Khalid but said the state ruling coalition was not going to rush the matter.

While heaping praise on Abdul Khalid's financial management prowess, Anwar said people still expected more.
