Ong decries 'balik Tongsan' jibe at MP's wife

MH17 Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming called for disciplinary action be taken against Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii for asking a DAP MP’s wife to " balik Tongsan (go back to China)".

Ong made the call today in reference to the remarks made by Razlan in several tweets directed at Tan Poh See, the wife of Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik.

“The wife of DAP leader (Ng Wei Aik), Tan Poh See said Malaysia was a useless country? @imokman (Ong’s Twitter handle), ask her to go back to China (balik tongsan) is she is not loyal to the country!

“Yuki Tan (Poh See’s Facebook account)... @imokman do you know who that is? The wife of a powerful DAP person insults Malaysia in the MH17 incident. Embarassing the country. Better if she balik tongsan,” reads Razlan tweets early this morning.

Following the MH17 tragedy in which the Malaysia Airlines plane was shot down as it flew over Ukraine airspace, killing all 298 on board, Tan had allegedly posted on the popular social networking site: “Malaysia is a scary nation, what kind of useless country is this?”

However, she later removed the post and apologised after it went viral and drew widespread condemnation from netizens.

Ong, in a statement today, stressed that it was deeply insulting for anyone to ask a fellow Malaysian to leave his or her country of birth.

“It is even more offensive when this is done by an Umno Youth leader representing the Federal Territory,” he said.

Discipline Razlan, Umno told

He added that the statement made by Razlan smacked of racism and was similar in nature to the ‘ squatters ’ remark made by Umno Bukit Bendera division chief Ahmad Ismail in 2008.

Ahmad was suspended for three years from Umno as a result of his remarks and was stripped of his posts in Umno during this time.

“If Umno is serious about national unity and eradicating racism in Malaysia, it should start within its own ranks by disciplining Razlan.

“The failure to do so will only encourage more Umno leaders to continue to spew out racially-offensive remarks and maks a total mockery of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s 1Malaysia programme,” Ong said.

Razlan had, in May, also threatened to burn down the DAP headquarters over the “Umno celaka” remark made by DAP’s Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer.
