Sultan still undecided on meeting MP, says aide
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has yet to decide if he will grant PAS MP Khalid Samad an audience, said the Selangor ruler's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has yet to decide if he will grant PAS MP Khalid Samad an audience, said the Selangor ruler's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani.
This is contradiction with a report by pro-Umno portal Agenda Daily , which quoted Munir as saying that the sultan has turned down Khalid’s request for an audience.
Munir said he had merely told the press that the sultan had received a letter from Khalid and this was misreported that the sultan had snubbed the MP.
"His majesty has not given his decision on whether he wants to meet or decline the request. Maybe the reporter twisted something. That is why I do not like speaking to reporters.
"I did not say that his majesty had declined (the request by Khalid)," Munir was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times .
Agenda Daily had yesterday reported him as saying that Sultan Sharafuddin might have considered granting an audience had the letter been an apology but instead it was a request to explain himself.
The sultan therefore turned down the request.
Khalid sent the written request after drawing a very widely-publicized reprimand from Sultan Sharafuddin last week for his remarks against the state Islamic affairs council (Mais).
On June 17, Khalid urged that Mais' powers be curbed after it instructed the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) not to return over 300 copies of the Bible which it confiscated from the Bible Society of Malaysia.
Khalid was accompanied by Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin, Kota Raja MP Siti Mariah Mahmud and Hulu Langat MP Che Rosli Che Mat when he made the statement at a press conference in the lobby of Parliament.
