Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has dismissed the initial speculation that PAS has conceded over the Selangor menteri besar crisis.

He was referring to the PAS central committee’s decision this morning, where the Islamic party backed PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Azmin Ali for the post.

Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister, said the decision was actually a veiled snub at PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

"Early analysis has it wrong. They (PAS) didn't give in. They stuck it to Ketum (ketua umum or de facto leader) big time," he said in a twitter post.

"Menikam kawan secara halus (Stabbing your friend in a subtle manner). Very deft," he added.

Initially, PAS was seen as being opposed to Wan Azizah replacing Khalid and wanted its Pakatan partner to submit alternative names.

Prior to today’s meeting, the PAS Syura Council as well as party president Abdul Hadi Awang had expressed support for Khalid to continue at the helm.

Meanwhile, Umno Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan urged Pakatan to now focus on governing the state, which has been embroiled in a protracted political crisis.

"Congratulations PAS for finally taking a stand,” tweeted the housing, local government and urban well-being minister.

"Now can you all in Pakatan quit politicking and start governing Selangor!" he added.

Among others, former Sabah chief minister Salleh Said Keruak tweeted his agreement, saying: "Totally agreed YB. Wasting time..."
