PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin today said that none of the Wanita Pakatan Rakyat leaders signed the joint statement endorsing Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Selangor menteri besar.

“None of us signed the joint statement. Since it is a joint statement, it does not need signatures,” Zuraida told Malaysiakini .

The Ampang MP was responding to PAS Dewan Muslimat chief Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff ( right ) who said today that she did not sign the joint statement.

However, Zuraida suspects that Siti Zailah has been reprimanded by the PAS leadership over the matter.

“That is why she said she did not sign the statement. I think that PAS should be more open and allow the Dewan Muslimat to express their views.

“It shouldn’t be wrong for the Dewan Muslimat to give their views, because doing so doesn’t mean they are overriding the party’s decision,” she said.

'More discussion needed'

Meanwhile DAP Wanita chief Chong Eng ( left ) told Malaysiakini that the joint statement was first posted on the Wanita Pakatan Rakyat WhatsApp group.

"Siti Zailah sort of agreed with the statement but she felt that the Dewan Muslimat needed to discuss the statement further.

"Yes, she did not sign the statement but the statement was not released by Wanita Pakatan Rakyat formally. I don't know how the statement was leaked," Chong said.

Siti Zailah had told Harakahdaily that she did not manage to refine the statement before it was released.

She expressed disappointment with the release of the statement and also reprimanded Wanita Pakatan Rakyat for releasing the statement without her signature.

The statement , which was released on Sunday, came as a surprise as PAS on Aug 17 - apart from nominating Wan Azizah to replace current Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim - had also nominated PKR deputy president Azmin Ali for the post.
