PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is expected to be sworn in as the new Selangor menteri besar, sources told Malaysiakini .

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Istana Alam Shah in Klang at 10am tomorrow, they said.

Soon after the ceremony, Azmin is likely to hold a press conference. He is also expected to meet a few of the party leaders as well as some of the local leaders.

Sources from the Menteri Besar’s Office said they have been given information on this event, but are yet to receive any "official" announcement.

"Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s last day (as menteri besar) will be today (Monday),” the sources told Malaysiakini

Khalid (left) is expected to hold a press conference at 4pm today.

However, the sources, added, that was all they could verify for now, as there was yet to be any official announcement on the appointment of the new menteri besar.

It is unclear if the palace will issue an official statement today on the chosen candidate despite reports that the announcement was to come today.

'Not true Anwar gave in'

Another PKR source said Azmin would also be holding discussions with Anwar Ibrahim to get the “final blessings” from the PKR de facto leader and his wife, party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Since last Thursday, PKR has issued statements stating that it still insists Wan Azizah as its only proposed candidate.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said that reports of Anwar having given way to Azmin are “not true”.

Saifuddin said this in reply to media speculation that the Selangor palace has picked Azmin as the menteri besar, which will end the waiting game of the past two months as to who will replace Khalid.

It is also understood that Azmin has, before this, met with Anwar privately to discuss the matter and to avoid any misunderstandings that may arise.

However, the details of this meeting are yet to be revealed.

It is also known that Anwar has been mulling the possibility of getting a second candidate for the post should Wan Azizah be rejected.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said that the second candidate must get the support of the party.

"PKR is solidly behind president Dr Wan Azizah as our MB choice. Any other name proposed must come from the party and be supported by the party," Chua tweeted last night.

"I specifically said Pakatan Rakyat can be open to consider another choice, including Azmin Ali or others, so long as the consultation process conducted."

Chua said this when denying a report in The Star that quoted him as saying that "Azmin has no support of PKR".
