With less than 24 hours to go before the swearing-in of the new Selangor menteri besar, some PKR leaders are now urging the top leadership to quit fighting with the palace.

In a statement, Kedah PKR division leaders and elected representatives say that it would be great the sultan chooses party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (left) as MB.

But in the likely event that she will not be sworn in tomorrow morning, the party should "accept" the appointment of another PKR leader as " qada dan qadar (fate and destiny)".

"If another PKR candidate is chosen by the Selangor sultan as MB, the entire leadership must accept this decision with an open heart and believe that there is a higher purpose for God’s will," he said.

"We believe that the leadership have tried their best to push the president as menteri besar, but as individuals, we must believe in fate and destiny.

"After the leadership’s efforts, it is best now to accept the Selangor sultan’s decision as it is (and) give support to the new MB," they said.

They said that they are making the stand following heavy speculation that another PKR leader other than Wan Azizah has been chosen to replace incumbent Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Sources in the know told Malaysiakini that the palace has given the nod to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

'A step back doesn't mean surrende r ing'

The statement was issued by Lunas rep Azman Nasrudin, Bukit Selambau rep R Krishnamoorthy, Sidam rep Robert Ling, Kubang Pasu division chief Nasrul Omar, Jerlun chief Zaidi Hassan, Pendang chief Muda Salleh, Jerai chief Muhammad Ziemuddin Osman and five other local PKR Youth chiefs.

"We have caused enough anxiety to our supporter and the rakyat, who are questioning when this crisis will end…

"Taking a step back does not mean surrendering or trading in our dignity, but merely taking a step back to draw up our strategy and to move forward for the sake of the rakyat," they said.

The statement comes after those still hoping for Wan Azizah insists that the party president must be appointed.

This includes central committee member R Sivarasa, who said has to explain the Wan Azizah snub, as she commands majority support of the House.
