Amnesty International's claim that the investigation of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is politically motivated, is “mischievous”, says Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali.

 

Ibrahim was reported in Utusan Malaysia today as saying that Amnesty is blind, and ignorant of the law. The Perkasa leader added no one is above the law.

“When Anwar is investigated they claim it is political, a conspiracy. Anwar is deemed clean and innocent. This is the thinking of those who are biased and prejudiced, who have their own agenda to smear Malaysia,” said Ibrahim.

 

He said Amnesty should compare Malaysia with other countries in terms of freedom and he advised Amnesty to fight for the rights of the Palestinians, who he says the Zionists are killing.

 

“The views aired by Amnesty are not welcome in Malaysia. Look at the people in Myanmar who are suffering. Sorry, Amnesty is just a tool for Anwar ( right ),” he said.

 

Yesterday, it was reported that Amnesty had condemned the use of "outdated" legislation against Anwar saying the sedition investigation is clearly political and smacks of persecution.

 

"Anwar Ibrahim has been a favourite target of the authorities for more than a decade, and this appears to be the latest attempt to silence and harass a critical voice,” Rupert Abbott, Amnesty International’s deputy Asia-Pacific director, had said.
