P KUBOR BN has won the by-election in Pengkalan Kubor, one of the few Umno forts in PAS-dominated Kelantan, with a higher majority.

According to Bernama , Umno took the seat with a majority of 2,635 votes - an additional of 899 votes to the majority it garnered at last year's general election.

This despite lower turnout of 73 percent of the 23,929 voters, compared to 80 percent in 2013.

Mat Razi Mat Ali (BN) bagged 9,961 votes, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim (PAS) 7,326 votes, and Izat Bukhary (Independent), 38 votes. There were 230 spoilt votes.

Polling at 11 polling centres, which went without incident, closed at 5pm today.

In the last general election, the seat was won by the late Umno representative Noor Zahidi Omar with a 1,736 majority against PKR's Sharun Ibrahim and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.

 
Unofficial results are expected at around 8pm while official results are expected at 9pm.

PAS had done a quiet campaign throughout as it held up a divided party without much help from its Pakatan Rakyat allies, DAP and PKR, amidst the Selangor menteri besar saga. 

Since the 13th general election, BN won four by-elections - Kuala Besut, Balingian, Pengkalan Kubor and Teluk Intan, which it wrested from the DAP.

Pakatan Rakyat won Kajang, Sungai Limau and Bukit Gelugor. BN did not contest Bukit Gelugor.
