P KUBOR The Pengkalan Kubor by-election, which is taking place today, is being seen as one of the calmest by-election to have taken place in the country since the conclusion of the 13th general election.

The Election Commission (EC) had received a total of three complaints of offences during campaigning, but no trouble or scuffles had broken out throughout the period.

In fact, the environment during voting today is also cheerful in all 11 voting centres that are filled with party supporters.

Supporters had gathered at polling centres since 7.30am today to lend support for their respective candidates, while wearing blue and green shirts to express support.

There is no animosity as despite the crowds and the shouting matches, the supporters are merely being cheerful rather than confrontational.

BN supporters carried placards which read ‘Support BN’, promoting GST, and words like ‘PAS uses religion for power’.

BN had campaigned on the theme of PAS’ internal strife and Pakatan Rakyat’s internal problems due to the Selangor menteri besar crisis, while PAS had campaigned on the oil royalty issue.

PAS supporters meanwhile carried placards such as ‘Cross for the moon’, ‘We love PAS’ and ‘We love Tok Guru’.

About 30 policemen were stationed at every polling station, while the traffic understandably is heavy at areas near the polling centres.

According to the EC, up until 12 noon 54 percent of the registered voters there have come out to vote.
