Activist: In Sweden, the king can be criticised

Swipenter: Blind faith is extremely dangerous and is fertile ground for extremism to flourish because such people are usually ignorant about facts and reality.

 

They are fed wrong views by their leaders in order for the latter to manipulate them to carry out their agenda. You cannot reason with the unreasonable for they will not listen to reason.

 

Ali Abd Jalil, fearing for your life, you did the right thing to flee to Sweden to seek political asylum.

 

It must be a very painful decision to take - not unlike many young Malaysians who are ‘forced’ to migrate elsewhere leaving their memories, loved ones and friends behind.

 

I am sure you will come back to Bolehland just like so many of those who have migrated when this land of ours snaps out of its current self-inflicted madness and regains its senses one day.

 

If that is any comfort to know, many of us are with you in spirit.

 

Appum: I don't think Ali criticised the local royalty for the sake of criticising, so I don't think he will have a problem with the Swedish monarchy.

 

There is no equivalent of Perkasa and Isma there, and the police and courts are independent, so Ali should be quite safe.

 

Ali should work hard and pay his dues to his adopted country; learn and hone his skills there and later come back to his native country and contribute positively to its development.

 

We understand your predicament. If the police as the enforcers of law, refuse to give you protection, then you are dead meat. It’s better to be safe than dead, and fight another day.

 

Kathleen Ong: Ali, God bless you. I’m sure it was not an easy decision. Eventually you will succeed, since you are guided by the truth. Keep up the good fight.

 

Malaysia Truly Asia: You call the tune, but you don't want to pay the piper. You should have known that criticising certain institutions is punishable, not just here in Malaysia but also in Thailand, which is even more severe.

 

Alas, like a coward you ran. This nation will forgive you, but never forget. By next week your life will begin, you have to get a job, a place to stay, etc. Life is life everywhere but people like you need to see it the hard way.

???: The thing is, Ali is facing death threats. Also, he was moved to different police stations and faced multiple court charges in different states. I can't imagine how tired he had been, unless I was the one facing the same situation.

 

Mob1900: He does more good on foreign soil highlighting how 1Malaysia is not what it seems. There, he's not prosecuted in the most ridiculous ways by those who abuse their powers using the law and the judiciary.

Leaving all that aside, my best wishes to you, friend. I can well imagine how terrible it must be, being forced to flee from family, friends, and the things you love.

??: What Dr Wong Chin Huat of Penang Institute said in a Malaysian Insider article "Unquestionable loyalty to ... is idolatry" is very true and has suddenly given me a chill.

 

It is time Muslims give the laws relating to sedition a second look. Is it in conflict with Islam?

                                                           

I seek the opinion of the Fatwa Council because 'shirik' (fearing something or someone other than Allah) is a serious offence. It looks like Ali's action makes him a better Muslim than me.

 

Senhua: This is the price Malaysia pays for sedition. Continuous brain drain. You can only imagine how many others who share his sentiments will leave Malaysia for a better life.
