Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim is confident that he will not be imprisoned as a result of Sodomy II.

He said this when addressing his supporters outside the Palace of Justice today.

He said that winning is possible due to the arguments made by his defence team when compared to the case made by prosecutor Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

"We will further argue our case this Thursday. According to the facts and law, the case should have been thrown out at the initial stage itself," he said, to thunderous applause.

A slight commotion had occurred earlier when supporters and photographers jostled to take pictures of the opposition leader.

Thanking his supporters, around 700 of them, Anwar also invited them to his house in Bukit Segambut tonight for Hajat prayers and Yasin recitation.

In his speech, Anwar also expressed hope to enter Universiti Malaya again if he is not convicted.

"I want to enter UM again. Even to enter a university is hard. Do you think the country is your grandfather’s?

"I receive invitations from universities like Harvard, Stamford, as well as universities in Dubai and China until I cannot fulfill all the invitations.

"But my own country won’t let me enter (local universities)," he lamented.

Muhammad Shafee finished his submissions today. The federal court has agreed to continue hearing on Thursday, as per lead defence counsel Gopal Sri Ram’s request.
