PARLIAMENT The Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex) still needs approval from the Selangor state government for land reclamation, the federal government said.
In a written answer to Tony Pua (Petaling Jaya Utara-DAP), Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar said that even though the Works Ministry and Kidex concesionaires had signed a concession in 2013, the state still needs to approve the process.
"The land reclamation for this project needs approval from the Selangor state government," he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Wahid also claimed that estimations that Kidex will only reduce traffic congestion by 4 percent was inaccurate and said that the expressway will instead decrease traffic between 16 to 21 percent in four different major roads.
“With Kidex, it is estimated that the areas will have traffic reduction is NKVE toll by 16 percent, Jalan Utara by 21 percent, Jalan Semangat by 18 percent and Jalan Templer by 21 percent,” Abdul Wahid said.
“Kidex can also directly connect to several main highways such as NKVE, Sprint, FHR2, NPE, Kesas and Bukit Jalil highway so that traffic dispersal can be made faster,” he added.
The new Selangor Menteri Besar, Azmin Ali, had previously said that the state will not oppose Kidex if it complies with local laws.
Support for Kidex was one the main reasons used to oust Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor MB.
