Assunta Hospital has denied that negligence on the part of its medical staff caused the death of teenager G Tinasha.

The hospital's chief executive officer Peter TL Leong said that hospital procedures were followed while treating the 14-year-old student.

"Preliminary investigations showed that policy was followed," Leong told reporters.

He said Tinasha's nausea was treated with the usual medication for such cases.

Asked if the medical officer should have consulted the specialist in charge before administering the medicine, he said such practice is "not in our procedure."

At a press conference this morning, Tinasha's parents alleged that their daughter could have been administered with the wrong medication.

Her parents have also filed a police report against the hospital.

Shortly after the press conference, the teenager passed away at 11.40am.

Her remains have been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre (UUMC) for post-mortem.

"We hope the post-mortem would be finished soon, then we would know what exactly happened," Leong said.

The hospital administrator claimed that his doctors are hurt by the family's claim of negligence.

He said it was premature for the family to make such claims to the media before a post- mortem was conducted.

"There are avenues which the family can take, if they are unhappy about something.

"If you feel Assunta Hospital has done something wrong, file a malpractice suit," he said.

However, he alleged that the family was not interested in seeking an amicable resolution.
