While Umno's Youth chief has been beating its chest over the alleged loss of Malay reserve land, PAS Youth said the ruling party should ask itself who is responsible for the situation.

PAS Youth information chief Mohd Nasaie Ismail said the principles behind Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's proposal for a Malay Land Trust Council was noble.

"However, Khairy needs to ask his Umno colleagues, whose fault is it that Malay reserve land has been pawned off?

"Who had approved the clearing up of traditional kampung around the entire Kuala Lumpur city to be converted into non-reserve land, and given to the large taukays like (infrastructure conglomerate) YTL to be developed?" asked Mohd Nasaie in a statement today.

He also pointed out "tens of acres" of land in Perak adjacent to the Plus Highway had been allegedly given to YTL for development.

"Who approved this? These are just a few examples from thousands of cases where the people's land was given away by the ruling party, from Khairy's own party, in the name of development.

"That is the actual fate of Malay reserve land," he said.

Yesterday at Umno's Youth wing AGM Khairy called for reserve land given away to be replaced, and for a council to be set up to protect the land.

Don't be hero, KJ

Mohd Nasaie countered saying Felda land, which is over 90 percent Malay-owned, is also allegedly being sold off "to just about anyone" via Felda Global Ventures.

"The pawning off of  Koperasi Permodalan Felda (KPF), one of the best cooperatives in Malaysia - whose fault is that?

"Who craves Felda's wealth that once belonged to the settlers and the citizens, but which today alas is no longer completely owned by them. Who is responsible for all this?"

The PAS Youth leader asked how one who could approve such conversions of land be trusted to head the council suggested by Khairy.

"Stop this, this is not just a question of rhetoric to become a hero of the Malays at the Umno AGM," he said.

"It is a question of our national sovereignty that is presently under threat when our citizens' land is increasingly diminishing.

As an example, he said Kuala Lumpur was under threat of being completely taken over by foreigners.

"In the end, Malaysian citizens of all races will end up being spectators in our own land," he warned.
