UMNO AGM Citing DAP by-election candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, the Umno Youth chief said "that chauvinistic party" gave her false hope but it was hope nonetheless.
Khairy Jamaluddin said Umno must admit that the opposition gives more opportunities to young people to become leaders.
"We have to admit that it is a 'wow' factor.
"Some ask why that candidate (Dyana) managed to pull more Malay young women to join that chauvinist party.
"The answer is simple, because she was diangkat (given prominence) by that chauvinist party.
"She was given hope although the hope was false," he added.
Khairy also said that Dyana was not chosen because she is "great".
"In fact, our Puteri Umno is greater than her," he said.
However, he admitted that Dyana became a "somebody" from a "nobody".
"She was made a somebody by her party, the party elevated her to become somebody," he added.
He said that although the young in Umno had no experience, but if properly trained, taken care of and elevated, they will be "greater than them (the opposition)".
"This is not us being insistent, but is the hope of the young out there," he added.
Political greenhorn Dyana rose to prominence when she was chosen as DAP's candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election.
She however lost to Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong by a slim vote difference.
