Is the sudden, special sitting on hudud by the Kelantan PAS government an attempt to distract from the 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal?

PKR central committee member Latheefa Koya asked this in a press statement today, referring to the special sitting of the Kelantan state assembly on the hudud implementation in the state scheduled for Dec 29.

“I refer to the move by Kelantan PAS to call for special sitting of the state assembly to table an amendment relating to the implementation of hudud.

“The move was suddenly announced at a press conference on Sunday by Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob ( right ).

“It is strange that the announcement was made just when Umno and Barisan Nasional are under tremendous pressure over the 1MDB scandal.

“Why the sudden urgency? And why the necessity to hold a special sitting to deal with this matter?” asked Latheefa.

She questioned whether it was perhaps an agenda to distract public attention from the 1MDB crisis.

Latheefa then called on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Ahmad to come clean on the matter.

"The Kelantan state government should be focusing on fighting the corruption and abuse of power of the BN-government instead of rushing the implementation of hudud.

"PAS should get its priorities correct, particularly in view of the increasing economic troubles faced by the ordinary people of this country," she said.

Latheefa ( left ) believes that PAS' insistence on proceeding with the special sitting would continue the unnecessary conflict and misunderstandings over hudud.

"This will perpetuate the misconception of justice under Islam, and this only brings further fitnah (slander) upon the image of Islam."
