The Selangor government has pledged RM1 million to the flood victims in Kelantan, said Menteri Besar Azmin Ali today.

Speaking to reporters today before heading off to Kelantan, he said the state government will also be allocating RM100,000 each for the states of Terengganu, Pahang and Perak that have also been badly hit by the annual monsoon season floods.

"In solidarity with the affected states, the state executive council meeting has approved RM1 million for Kelantan and RM100,000 each for Terengganu, Pahang and Perak state governments,” said Azmin today.

Azmin with two other of his state exco members Amirudin Shari (youth development, sports, cultural and entrepreneurship development) and Daroyah Alwi (health, welfare, women and family affairs) will be leaving for Kelantan later today to hand over the funds to the stricken state.

He said that Selangor economic adviser Anwar Ibrahim had been roped in to discuss on the necessary steps needed to deal with the dire situation in the affected states.

Selangor has allocated RM200,000 for humanity assistance missions which will be coordinated by Daroyah under the Selangor Humanity Assistance Mission (Pantas), said Azmin.

State GLCs to pitch in

He further stated that all the local authorities in Selangor will also be helping out in the cleaning up process after the waters have receded.

“The state government has also got the financial help from the (state) government linked companies as well as private companies in Selangor to assist in providing school necessities such as bags and school uniforms for the primary and secondary students,” said Azmin.

He also announced that all celebrations to usher in the new year organised by the state including 'Temasya Selangor 15' have been called off out of respect for the flood victims.

This also includes calling off TV3 ’s Jom Heboh programme to be held this weekend at I-City in Shah Alam.
