“The formation of a BN-Pakatan Rakyat floods catastrophe joint action council will formalise what is already happening on the ground in the various flood-stricken states, with regard to the flood relief efforts rendered by BN and Pakatan,” he said in a statement today.
The Gelang Patah MP noted that he has made this suggestion - together with four other proposals - to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in an email yesterday.
The four proposals include the declaration of emergency in flood zones, a special parliamentary sitting on the disaster, a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to probe the causes of the severe flooding, and the doubling of allocation from RM500 million to rebuild the devastated region.
Lim added that the parliamentary sitting can also discuss the possibility of postponing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) so as not to burden flood victims.
The massive flooding, which displaced over 250,000 people at its peak, was one of the worst in decades.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of another monsoon surge - which is expected to begin on Jan 7 or 8 - with possible continuous heavy rainfall over certain states like Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
