MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon should be thankful for the urging for Malays to boycott Chinese traders to bring prices down, said Agriculture and Agri-based Industries Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Responding to Chong who slammed Ismail for urging Malays to boycott Chinese traders, the minister said this is because he is using Malay majority power to bring prices down.

"The MCA Youth chief should thank me for using the Malay majority voice to pressure Chinese traders to cut prices, because most Chinese are consumers who are also strained by high prices…

"By right, the MCA Youth chief must appeal to Chinese consumers to use their voice to pressure these traders but he does not know his priorities and who he should protect," he said.

He also lambasted MCA Youth for "being in cahoots with BN’s enemy" DAP in taking him to task for this statement urging Malays to boycott Chinese traders.

"As MCA Youth chief and a senator, Chong should have contacted me or met with me for an explanation and not join forces with the DAP,” Ismail said.

DAP Youth chief Teo Kok Seong issued a separate statement lambasting Ismail on the same matter.

Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang also called Ismail an “imbecile” for angering the Chinese and scoring an own goal for BN.

Ismail received support from Umno Youth exco member Armand Azha Abu Hanifah who said that Chong "clearly" missed the plot on price cuts for all consumers.

"As a BN partner, he should have gone directly to Ismail on the matter instead of immediately protesting and dancing to DAP’s tune,” he said in a separate statement.

"We stand firmly behind and support Ismail Sabri’s statement for the benefit of all Malaysians."
