Agriculture and Agro Based Industries Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today urged the police to act just as quickly on threats being made against him following the latter's controversial statement about Chinese traders.

 

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar ( left ) had said that the police would record a statement from Ismail Sabri over the latter's Facebook post urging Malays to boycott Chinese traders, which has caused a furore over the past few days.

 

"They announced within two days that they would record a statement from me. I hope they act just as fast on the threats being made," he said.

 

He, however, dismissed the threats as a "normal" reaction to his statement which had suggested a boycott on Chinese traders to bring down the prices of goods. 

 

"That is normal. Some like the statement, some don't like it. Some celebrate my statement, even," Ismail Sabri pointed out.

 

He confirmed that he has yet to be contacted by the police to have his statement on the matter recorded.

Nonetheless, he described his own statement as being made with "noble intentions".

Ismail Sabri also said that the topic of his remarks had been discussed in the cabinet meeting today.

"The cabinet has discussed the matter. The PM will make a statement later," he noted.
