Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is staying coy on prospects of him replacing Anwar Ibrahim as the opposition leader in Parliament.

Pressed by reporters today as to whether he wants the role or otherwise, the Gombak MP and PKR deputy president said the issue was not on whether he wants the post or not.

"It's not whether I want the role. Pakatan Rakyat's strength is we discuss things and make decisions based on consensus.

"So let's wait for the Pakatan meeting to conclude first," he told reporters when questioned at a press conference today.

Pressed further on whether he was ready to replace Anwar, Azmin simply said that he would first "see the decision of Pakatan Rakyat".

As to talk that he "is the best candidate" for the role, Azmin said he believed the opposition coalition "is full of capable leaders".

"There are so many other leaders who are competent enough to lead Pakatan as the leader of the opposition," he said.

Azmin had earlier confirmed that the Pakatan Rakyat presidential council will meet on Friday night to discuss several issues and steps that needed to be taken by the coalition.

Meanwhile, when asked whether Anwar's daughter, Nurul Nuha Anwar ( right ) would be a suitable candidate for the Permatang Pauh by-election, Azmin said they have yet to discuss on who should be the candidate as the seat had not been vacated officially yet.

Asked on his personal take on the matter, he said: "It is not about my personal take, it (choosing the candidate) has to be based on facts."

Speculation is rife that Nurul Nuha might contest the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat in Penang.

However, when her sister, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar. was asked about this speculation, the two-time MP for Lembah Pantai skirted the issue.
