In welcoming the willingness of Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives to accept his asset declaration challenge, an Umno man has urged them to do it and not pay lip service.  

Cheras Umno division head Syed Ali Alhabshee said opposition leaders must prove their transparency.

"Prove it immediately to the people, don't just pay lip service. Let's see how far they are prepared to go," he added in a blog posting.

He said since Pakatan leaders drew first blood by hurling slanderous allegations at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on this issue, they must be the first to come clean.

He argued if the opposition can question the wealth of former prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein’s family, then the people are also entitled to know the status of Pakatan politicians.

Zeroing in on PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, he said: "I suggest Rafizi declare how much his income was before he became a lawmaker and after."

However, Syed Ali said an independent committee must be formed to evaluate the sincerity of Pakatan leaders in declaring their assets.

He also explained that Umno leaders would have no problems doing so themselves.

"What is important is that we serve the people and ensure the success and stability of the nation," he added.

Yesterday, Syed Ali challenged Pakatan elected representatives to declare their assets following the attacks on Najib.

Following this, Pakatan reps such as PAS' Mahfuz Omar and Rafizi indicated their willingness to reveal their income and wealth status.
