Citing the legal row over the right to use the term "Allah", Kelantan Umno assemblyperson Md Alwi Che Ahmad has lambasted  those rejecting hudud laws.

"Before this (non-Muslims) 'sibuk sangat' (so eager) to use Allah's name, until the issue was brought to court.

"Today, Kelantan wants to implement Allah's law, why is it that you don't want that?

"What do you want Allah for when you don't want the law? Answer that question first," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Kelantan state assembly sitting.

Md Alwi, who earlier fought back tears when debating the Hudud Bill, was referring to the legal battle between the Catholic church and government over the "Allah" term.

Early this year, a five-member Federal Court bench early had dismissed the application by the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church to review an earlier decision of the court not to grant leave to appeal the ban on the use of the word "Allah" in its weekly, The Herald .

The government had argued that the term is exclusive for Muslims.

Md Alwi launched the tirade when questioned on DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke’s threat to initiate legal action against PAS over the Hudud Bill.

Initially, the Kok Lanas assemblyperson said the question should be referred to PAS as the DAP leader was its "friend".

The Kelantan state legislative assembly tomorrow will see assemblypersons voting for or against the amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II.
