The police have been slammed for being the "running boys" of MCA after police motorcycles were spotted escorting the MCA Youth convoy to protest at DAP's headquarters over Kelantan's hudud enactment yesterday.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said it was a troubling sight at the protest where MCA Youth members handed resignation letters for DAP elected representatives for not stopping Kelantan's bill.

"What was surprising was that at least two police high-powered motorcycles were seen escorting the MCA convoy of MCA Youth's expensive cars yesterday.

"What are the police doing rubbing shoulders with MCA and escorting them during the demonstration in front of an opposition party's office?" he said, asking why similar privileges have never been accorded to the people's protests.

"Why didn't the police prepare this escort service for the peaceful assemblies that Bersih and Kita Lawan organised recently, that were executed and ended peacefully without police provocation?"

"Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar should remind his force not to become MCA's running boys, because the ones who pay their salaries are the people, not MCA," he added.

Lim ( left ) quipped he is pleased that MCA was supported the idea of peaceful assemblies and hopes the BN party would not criticise peaceful assemblies in the future.

"After this, MCA should no longer criticise any peaceful assembly in Malaysia, but should support those who assemble peacefully and take part in such assemblies by the people in the future," he said in a statement.

Clever game by BN

Meanwhile DAP's Balakong assemblyperson Eddie Ng hit out at the rally at DAP's headquarters saying it was a part of the "well-planned political mischief" and deception by BN.

Umno, he said, showed support for hudud to demonstrated how it protects Islam, while MCA would then go about telling the Chinese it will fight to stop hudud as a means of staying relevant to the community.

Ng speculated that in the end, MCA knows that Prime Minister Najib Razak would step in and block PAS' bill and the Chinese party could then boast they have succeeded.

He added that MCA leaders were dishonest, citing how vice-president Wee Ka Siong on May 7 threatened that MCA would review its position in BN should the Kelantan enactment proceed, and then its president Liow Tiong Lai yesterday made the excuse for Kelantan Umno's participation in passing the bill saying it was their personal stand.

He challenged BN parties, especially MCA, to dismantle the technical committee on hudud set up by cabinet, if they want to prove they are sincerely opposed to hudud.

Last year Umno minister Jamil Khir Baharom set the ball rolling on Kelantan's hudud enactment by announcing the BN government's support, and last May formed a joint technical committee with PAS to study its implementation.
