Those who refuse to pay the goods and services tax should move to the moon, BN’s Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad.

He said this when replying to a Facebook user who asked what will happen if he refuses to pay the GST.

"Don’t want to pay GST? Live on the moon. All governments operate by taxing the people, including the Kelantan government," he said.

Nawawi, who is also Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd chairperson said people will suffer if the government cannot collect tax.

"GST helps the nation and the people. If a country goes bankrupt then its people will also die," he told another Facebook user.

Although he later deleted the conversation, a screenshot of it was published on the blog omakkau.blogspot.com.

When contacted, Nawai said he was only joking around with his social media friends who use the PAS symbol as their profile pictures.

"I was joking with my Facebook friends, that’s normal. They always comment on my Facebook, so I joke around with them.

"(That Facebook user) said he does not want to pay GST so I told him to live on the moon since he’s a PAS man. He should live on the moon since his profile picture is the moon," he said.

He was referring to the PAS symbol which is a white circle - often referred to as a moon - on a green background.

The GST was today introduced at six percent,  despite heavy public resistance.
