PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang Private Member’s Bill to amend a federal law and pave the way for hudud in Kelantan will not be tabled in this parliamentary session.

The ongoing Dewan Rakyat session ends today. The next session starts on May 18.

This was announced by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim at the Dewan Rakyat today, PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily reported.

Shahidan made no mention of whether any outstanding bills will be brought forward to the next sitting scheduled for May.

Hadi on March 19 submitted a Private Member’s Bill to amend the Syariah Court Act, so the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II (Amendment 2015) 1993 can come into force.

Penalties including amputations and death in the Kelantan enactment goes beyond what syariah courts are allowed to mete out, as per the Syariah Court Act.

Syariah courts come under state jurisdiction, according to Schedule 9 of the Federal Constitution.
