A police officer allegedly threatened to rape a female participant of the anti-Goods and Services Tax rally on May 1 when she was quizzed at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters.

Maisara Amira Mohamed Asmadi, 21, lodged a police report on the threat at the Petaling Jaya district headquarters on May 6.

This is to demand that the case is investigated by an independent team from a different police station, fearing abuse of power and injustice.

Dang Wangi police chief Zainol Samah earlier said an investigation paper was opened immediately after Maisara’s report was lodged on May 6.

Maisara (photo) was arrested and remanded for four days with 22 others, following the rally in Kuala Lumpur participated by 20,000 people.

The day before her remand order expired (May 5), she said, she was taken to an interrogation room and quizzed by three police officers, including one female officer, was waiting.

When she chose to remain silent, a police officer allegedly told her: "Do you want me to rape you? In this room, there is only you and I. This room has a camera and a microphone, if I sell (the video), I will become rich.'

Although threatened, she said she remained silent and showed no reaction to the police officer.

She said the officer, who was in plainclothes and did not wear a name tag, then said: "I’ll give you a chance. You reply to all the questions asked by this woman (the female police officer). If not, I will ask her to leave and I will enter. And you settle it with me."

She said she was very fearful but continued to keep silent.

The incident has traumatised her and made her feel unsafe, she told a press conference at the office women’s rights NGO Empower in Petaling Jaya.

"I feel my right as a woman must be defended and that this case should be given attention,” she said.

"This is a serious matter. Rape threats should not happen in interrogations."

urged police chief Khalid Abu Bakar to investigate the matter and bring the person who allegedly threatened his daughter to justice.

"I am sad about this. This is bad form. Police officers shouldn’t be like this. They must have integrity so people will trust them.

"I cannot leave my daughter alone now. (We are) no longer free," he said.

Also present at the press conference was Maisara’s lawyer Sivamalar Genapathy and Empower chief executive Maria Chin Abdullah.
