Auditor-general denies '1MDB not cooperative'

Auditor-general Ambrin Buang has denied claims via an image circulated on the Internet that he had called 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) "uncooperative" with regards to his probe of the agency.

Umno-owned Utusan Online today reported Buang denying that he had ever said such a thing.

“The image has been circulating for two days in social media. It is not true.

“The management and board of directors of 1MDB have already given their full cooperation to the Auditor-General’s Department,” Ambrin is reported as saying on his WhatsApp.

“I have never issued any statement (regarding the matter),” he added.

1MDB, Prime Minister Najib Razak's pet project, has come under increasing fire, significantly from within the Umno ranks, for its alleged financial scandals.

According to the report, Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan also denied the image’s claims and said 1MDB has given full cooperation with the ongoing audit.

Buang said news of the poster was initially reported on www.mykmu.net today, but the article does not appear to be online at press time.

DPM: Don't wait for audit

In the face of mounting scandal around his pet project, Prime Minister Najib Razak finally relented and said he had asked the Auditor-General’s Department to audit the investment company owned by the Finance Ministry.

However, critics are not convinced that the audit will probe the full measure of the numerous controversies surrounding 1MDB’s activities and finances.

Notably, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was caught on video calling for immediate action to be taken against 1MDB regardless of the audit.

"We have to take action, we cannot be, 'Nevermind, give a bit more time'. No!" Muhyiddin was seen saying in the video, which was curiously circulated on the same day that Najib announced his 11 th Malaysia Plan in Parliament.
