Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak felt tremors as a result of a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that shook Tokyo and surrounding areas today.

Najib, accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor, is on a three-day working visit to Japan, since yesterday.

In a Twitter posting, the prime minister related his experience.

"Before meeting the captains of industry, Tokyo was hit by an earthquake. Felt the tremors, the floor and lights moved. But all was calm, thank God," he tweeted.

As it is the case with all of Najib's tweets, it attracted mixed responses from Twitter users.

Najib and Rosmah are in Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Roundtable meeting

The couple also had an audience with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace.

It was reported that the couple arrived at the Imperial Palace at about 10.15am local time (9.15am Malaysian time).

They were accompanied by Malaysian Ambassador to Japan, Ahmad Izlan Idris.

Following this, Najib attended a roundtable meeting with 34 captains of industries in which he invited Japanese businesses to continue investing in Malaysia.

Najib was also slated to hold a bilateral meeting with Abe before attending an official dinner at the Prime Miniter's Residence in Chiyoda-ku.

Rosmah, on the other hand, would visit the Institute for Radiological Sciences in Chiba.
