Police have rubbished urgings to arrest former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the suggestion will not be entertained.

"There is no reason for me to arrest Mahathir. That is a naughty suggestion that I will not entertain," he told reporters at a press conference in KL Sentral today.

Previously, former Umno supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah had dared police to arrest Mahathir ( photo ).

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also threatened to investigate those who spread allegedly falsified information regarding 1MDB, leaked by Sarawak Report .

Mahathir had been using the 1MDB scandal as ammunition in his relentless campaign to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Najib in turn has accused Mahathir of working with the foreign media to concoct allegations that he had siphoned RM2.6 billion of 1MDB funds.

Mahathir denied Najib's accusation, and said he verified his claims with local people, not the foreign media.

He also said Najib's mere denials about the expose were insufficient, and the premier should prove his innocence.
