As the dust begins to settle, a clearer picture of the violence over the weekend at Low Yat Plaza and its immediate vicinity has begun to emerge.

As of today, 26 people have been arrested in connection to the violence, or for the spreading of rumours. At least one victim is still being hospitalised for observation.

By compiling information from witnesses, police reports, charge sheets and the account of Malaysiakini reporter Radzi Razak, the timeline of the incident is as follows:

Saturday (July 11)

4.47pm - Two individuals were detained in Low Yat Plaza by mobile phone shop workers for alleged theft at another shop. The main suspect was held by police, while the alleged accomplice was released.

7.30pm - The alleged accomplice returns with six others to confront kiosks workers, brawl ensues. Videos of the incident spread.

Sunday (July 12)

7.00pm -  A small group of people gather in front of Low Yat Plaza, following a social media storm regarding the brawl.

8.40pm - About 200 people tried to barge into Low Yat Plaza through the main entrance but were prevented by security staff and the police. Mob makes many racial remarks.

9.00pm - Shutters drawn down at main entrance, police begin cordoning off area with yellow tape.

11.30pm - Dozens more arrive on motorcycles near Federal Hotel, located next to Low Yat.

Monday (July 13)

12.00am - Shouting matches between two groups at Jalan Bintang in front of Federal Hotel.

12.30am - Helmets and firecrackers thrown, several scuffles erupted. Several injured including journalists.

1.10am - Federal Reserve Unit (riot police) appears.

1.30am - Police began to comb through Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Bintang, Jalan Bulan and parts of Jalan Imbi and Jalan Alor for troublemakers.

3.30am - Car was ambushed near Jalan Davis and Jalan Imbi, three were injured. One hospitalised.
