State chief: 13 of 15 Selangor PAS reps still loyal

Selangor PAS said today 13 of its 15 assemblypersons in the state remained loyal to the party and the Pakatan Rakyat state government despite recent talk that three of the representatives had been lured to join the newly-established Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) or New Hope Movement.

Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad said 10 of the 13 assemblypersons attended a meeting today to confirm their loyalty and discussed daily issues.

“I have met the three assemblypersons who were absent, namely from Sabak, Bangi and Paya Jaras, and they stated their loyalty to the party,” he said, adding that only two assemblypersons had stated that they were joining GHB.

Morib assemblyperson Hasnul Baharuddin and Hulu Kelang assemblyperson Saari Sungib as well as Kota Raja MP Siti Mariah Mahmud have reportedly stated that they were joining GHB.

While PAS has 15 seats in the 56-seat Selangor state assembly, DAP also has 15 and PKR, 13. The Barisan Nasional has 12 seats. Former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who was sacked from PKR, is the only Independent assemblyperson.

Iskandar said any disciplinary action against Hasnul and Saari would be left to the PAS central leadership because it involved party policy in determining their necessity to vacate the seats won on a PAS ticket.
