Amid speculation that he will also lose his number two post in Umno, Muhyiddin Yassin is confident this will not happen.

The axed deputy premier said he does not feel threatened and is sure nothing unusual will happen at this Friday's Umno supreme council meeting.

"No (I'm not threatened). I'm not new, I've been in the party for a long time.

"I will do my duty and don't feel restricted or worried to attend the meeting.

"Those in the supreme council are experienced and will be open minded, and will give room for people to give their views," he told reporters at his residence in Bukit Damansara.

Supporters told to keep calm

Muhyiddin said he will continue his duties as Umno's deputy president, including to ensure that the party is ready to face the next general election.

Asked if he will still work with Najib in Umno, Muhyiddin responded positively.

"My responsibility as deputy Umno president is to help the president and supreme council members to manage the party and I will continue to do it," he said.

He then advised his supporters, who may be upset with his dismissal from the cabinet, to put the party and nation above their emotions.

"What I prioritise is party unity and I will not be involved in efforts that can cause clashes.

"I understand their feelings, it is normal human reactions but they know what needs to be done.

"I appreciate their support [...] but my advise to them is to prioritise the party and nation. Don't do anything that can cause harm or clashes," he said.
