Sacked AG urged to verify ‘Najib's charge sheet’

PKR legal bureau chief Latheefa Koya has urged sacked attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail to verify the authenticity of a charge sheet against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

She added that it was not for newly-minted AG Mohamed Apandi Ali to verify the matter as it was Abdul Gani who was involved in the special task force's investigation into claims that RM2.6 billion was deposited into Najib's private bank accounts.

"The authenticity of the draft charge sheet must be confirmed or denied by Abdul Gani himself.

"Abdul Gani ( photo ) was in charge of the investigations and was the key member of the 1MDB task force," she said in a press statement today.

Apandi had denied the charge sheet originated from the Attorney-General's Chambers and vowed that full force of the law would be used against those he claimed were involved in a plot to topple the government.

However, Latheefa said Apandi should not jump to such a conclusion simply because of the alleged draft charge sheet that was first circulated by whistleblower site Sarawak Report .

"Where is the evidence for such a plot?

"The public have a right to demand for answers on 1MDB, this does not mean there's a plot to topple the prime minister.

"Further, demanding the removal of the PM is the democratic right of every Malaysian," she said.

Abdul Gani was sacked on Tuesday, the same day when Najib announced a cabinet reshuffle.

In the reshuffle, Najib appointed four members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) into the government, rendering the committee unable to function until they are replaced when Parliament reconvenes in October.

The PAC was also conducting a separate investigation into 1MDB.
