Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has yet to explain to Umno leaders about the RM42 million deposited into his personal bank account by a subsidiary of SRC International Sdn Bhd

"No, he has not," BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan responded when asked during a press conference today.

As to whether the RM42 million was a donation, the Umno supreme council member said: "I don't know. It is up to him."

SRC International is a firm owned by the Finance Ministry and a former subsidiary of 1MDB. Najib is also finance minister.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal of July 3 citing information from Malaysian investigators, RM50 million was transferred from SRC International to its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari, which was then routed to another subsidiary, Ihsan Perdana.

Ihsan Perdana then transferred RM42 million into Najib's accounts. The transactions were done between December 2014 and February this year.

While the RM2.6 billion transferred into the prime minister's private bank accounts ahead of the last general election has been described as political donation from an unidentified Middle Eastern source, investigations are still ongoing with regard to the SRC International issue.

Najib ordered the investigation

Rahman ( photo ) reminded all quarters that it was Najib who ordered the investigation.

"The very important point to remember is the prime minister wants the transactions to be investigated," he added.

Najib has repeatedly denied that he had used public funds for personal gain.

However, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers probing the SRC International transactions had cried foul when the police investigated them instead over the leak of classified information.

MACC has accused the police of interfering with their probe, and its special operations director Bahri Mohd Zin claimed that the police were acting upon the instructions of hidden hands - which the police denied.

More drama ensued when Bahri and another MACC officer were slapped with transfer orders to the Prime Minister’s Department. The transfers orders were cancelled after a huge public outcry.

Opposition leaders have accused the Najib administration of attempting to thwart the SRC International investigation.
