Former Special Branch Deputy Director Abdul Hamid Bador today admitted that he was at former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail’s home for a "discussion" two nights before Gani was removed as AG.

Revealing this in a statement today, he asked Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi if this was the reason he was suddenly transferred to the Prime Minister’s Department.

"I admit that I was at Gani’s house for almost an hour and a half, two nights before he was sacked. Many things were discussed.

"I admit that Gani had before this frequently asked the Special Branch for views on various cases, especially on their impact on national security.

"If this is why Ahmad Zahid is now punishing me, then he is a cruel man. Doesn’t he realise that I am a career officer in the Royal Police Force and not a political lackey?" he asked.

Abdul Hamid did not elaborate on what he discussed with Gani at the then-AG’s home.

He also asked if the decision to transfer him was made at an "urgent meeting" chaired by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and attended by his wife Rosmah Mansor, Ahmad Zahid and several other top officials.

"If this is true, I feel so insulted," he said.

Politicians 'bullying' civil servants

Abdul Hamid added his transfer to the Prime Minister’s Department is not a usual transfer because the orders came from the home minister.

"I want an answer from Zahid himself…as he was the one who verbally informed me of the transfer and must know the reason," he said.

Abdul Gani was removed from his position on July 28, after which alleged that Gani was drafting a charge sheet to prosecute Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for graft.

Gani (photo) remained silent on the claim, but his successor Apandi Ali denied the existence of the charge sheet and claimed the false charge sheet indicates an attempt to criminalise Najib and topple the government through doctored documents.

Several Attorney-General’s Chambers and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers were subsequently arrested for alleged leaks to Sarawak Report.

MACC denied that its officers were part of a conspiracy to topple the government.

Abdul Hamid reportedly received a show cause letter from the Royal Malaysian Police for speaking to media earlier.

He is currently on leave before starting duty at the Prime Minister's Department.

He said while he is ready to accept his fate but does not want the same to befall other civil servants.

"This heinous act of bullying civil servants by political leaders must be stopped."
