A warm celebration is to be held at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang tomorrow to welcome the return of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad from an overseas trip.

Invitations to attend the 'celebration' are now being spread online via Facebook. The invite asks those who intend to come to arrive from 12.30pm onwards.

“An invitation for all Malaysians, to celebrate Merdeka with Tun. The rakyat are with Tun M, let’s save Malaysia,” reads the invitation that does not state the organiser’s name.

A blogger, who declined to be named, told Malaysiakini that the event was being carrid out in an ad hoc manner, without a formal organising committee.

“This event has no official committee. But it will still go on.

“Tun will come back from Jordan and other places such as Europe, including the Lotus car centre in Norwich, United Kingdom,” said the blogger.

Police to question Dr M

Mahathir had surprised many when he made appearances during the recent Bersih rally which among others, was to call for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation.

He had said that he had attended the rally as a sign of solidarity with the rakyat who wanted Najib to go.

After the weekend rally, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Mahathir would be investigated for his attendance at the Bersih rally.

This is to be done under Section 500 of the Penal Code, on criminal defamation for the remarks he made during his visit.
