Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is mulling legal action against a newspaper which he alleged printed "false news" against his government.

This newspaper, he claimed, had lied by quoting Urban Wellbeing, Home and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan on an allegation that Lim's administration approved 6,000 acres of land reclamation in Penang.

"The minister ( photo , below ) himself said he had no proof to substantiate his claims, so directly or indirectly, the paper had lied and slandered the Penang government," Lim said in George Town today.

He denied ever having approved 6,000 acres of land for reclamation.

Lim said it was "illogical" for the newspaper to ask him to show proof that he did not approve the reclamation of such a big piece of land.

"If you want to accuse someone of wrongdoing, you must have proof. For example, to accuse someone of murder, there must be a dead body," Lim quipped.

"When will they ever stop accusing us? Tomorrow they will say we have approved 10,000 acres or 100,000 acres for reclamation, even without proof.

"Where got people as irresponsible as this?" Lim queried.

BN is bankrupt of ideas

Lim declined to reveal the indentity of the publication which now faces the possibility of his legal wrath.

However, he said that certain newspapers aligned to BN, which are spreading malicious slander against Penang, showed that BN is bankrupt of ideas.

Lim also expressed regret that Rahman had displayed his irresponsibility as a minister by uttering falsehood.

"If you have any dignity as a minister, apologise to the people of Penang as your accusations involve the state government," he rebuked the Kota Belud MP.

"If you fail to apologise, then resign."

Rahman had reportedly said any reclamation project of more than 100 hectares or involving 10,000 people, needed to get the approval of the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN).

This council is chaired by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
