The Rulers Conference has reminded the country’s leaders to obey the rule of law.

According to Bernama , the sultans also want justice to be dealt out fairly and transparently.

"The Malay rulers wish to remind all leaders to uphold the constitution and the rule of law at all times, as written in the Rukun Negara.

"To ensure that the government is trusted, its leaders respected, political stability maintained, and continued economic growth, all leaders must also at all times ensure that justice is dealt fairly and transparently in accordance with the law," the rulers said in a joint statement today.

The statement was released by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, after the pre-council meeting of the Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara today.

The 239th meeting of the Conference of Rulers is scheduled for two days from tomorrow.

Besides asking the leaders to uphold to the rule of law, the sultans also urged the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Bank Negara, the Attorney-General's Chambers, and the judiciary to carry out their responsibilities transparently, with credibility and integrity.

They also asked the leaders to stress on national security, peace and harmony and to put the country's needs before their own.

The strongly-worded statement comes amid political turmoil in Malaysia, with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak plagued with scandals revolving around 1MDB.
