The membership and positions of the seven Umno leaders being monitored for possible breaches of party discipline may be suspended, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.

"Once that process goes (from the supreme council to disciplinary board), we will suspend their membership and the positions," Tengku Adnan told reporters outside the Parliament lobby today.

"We are sick and tired of some of our members who come out with statements not meant for the public," he added, but refused to name the seven members.

Asked to confirm if all the seven have positions, Tengku Adnan replied: "Some have positions."

Pressed further for a timeframe, the federal territories minister said he was still sorting it out.

Tengku Adnan said this when asked by reporters about an alleged plot to remove Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin ( photo ).

The issue of seven Umno leaders coming under observation first cropped up last month, when Tengku Adnan was asked why no action has been taken against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Besides Mahathir and Muhyiddin, the others being monitored are believed to include former ministers Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Mohd Shafie Apdal and Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

These leaders have been vocal about Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's leadership and 1MDB, which prompted a cabinet reshuffle in late July that saw Muhyiddin and Shafie axed.
