PAS’ refusal to vote down Budget 2016 is proof that the Islamist party’s claim of staying together with opposition parties is nothing but untrue.

"We are disappointed that they are not supporting the vote of no confidence.

"That shows the previous statement by PAS saying they are together with the opposition parties is not true.

"And they are actually working closely with BN,” said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng when met by reporters at the Selangor DAP convention in Petaling Jaya today.

Expressing disappointment with the decision made by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Lim said the people should therefore decide who they want to support, based on the decision made by PAS.

“(Last time), voting for PAS was part of the alternative (to BN). Now they have shown how they want to be with BN.

“PAS at one time used to be part of the solution with Pakatan Rakyat, but now his (Hadi’s) statement shows that they are now part of the problem with BN,” said Lim.

Sinar Harian quoted Hadi saying that his party will not take part in a vote against Budget 2016.

The PAS chief also claimed the decision was supported by all PAS lawmakers.

“There are things we don't agree on, but there is no way we will join calls to reject Budget 2016,” Hadi was quoted as saying by the Malay daily in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

Voting down the budget would be akin to a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had said that Abdul Hadi supported a no-confidence vote against Najib ' in principle '.

'PAS siding with BN'

Meanwhile, asked to respond to PAS which has said that it was prepared to advise Umno instead of toppling Najib, Lim pointed out how PAS seemed insistent to be part of the problem with BN.

“We have said that BN is part of the problem and we are part of the solution - a new, clean, and competent alternative solution.

“As I have said just now, they (PAS) are supposed to be part of the solution, but sticking by supporting BN, they are part of the problem,” said the Bagan MP.

Abdul Hadi had said that PAS wants to advise the government on issues such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), housing, and the falling ringgit.

“PAS is prepared to become an adviser and aide if Umno changes government policies. We are not power-hungry or want to take over Putrajaya,” he said.
